Ear Infection

Ear infections are a common medical condition where bacteria or viruses cause inflammation in different parts of the ear. They can affect the outer, middle, or inner ear. The most common type is a middle ear infection, known as otitis media, especially in children. This often occurs after a cold or respiratory infection, when fluid gets trapped behind the eardrum, leading to pain, pressure, and sometimes fever or temporary hearing loss.

Hearing Loss

Treatment depends on the type and cause. Conductive hearing loss may be corrected with medication, earwax removal, or minor surgery. Sensorineural hearing loss is usually managed with hearing aids, and in severe cases, cochlear implants might be recommended. Preventing hearing loss involves protecting ears from loud noises, treating infections promptly, and undergoing regular hearing checks—especially as we age or if there’s a family history of hearing problems.

Tinnitus Treatment

Tinnitus is the perception of sound (like ringing, buzzing, hissing, or clicking) in the ears or head when no external sound is present. It can be constant or come and go. Causes include exposure to loud noise, earwax buildup, hearing loss, ear infections, or issues with the auditory nerve. While not a disease itself, it’s often a symptom of an underlying condition. Treatment focuses on managing the cause, sound therapy, stress reduction, and in some cases, hearing aids or medication.

Ear Surgery

Ear surgeries are performed to treat chronic ear problems, restore hearing, or correct structural issues. Common procedures include: Myringotomy: A small incision in the eardrum to drain fluid or insert ear tubes. Tympanoplasty: Repair of a perforated eardrum or middle ear bones. Mastoidectomy: Removal of infected mastoid bone tissue, often due to chronic infection. Stapedectomy: Replacement of a damaged stapes bone to treat hearing loss from otosclerosis. These surgeries are typically done by ENT specialists to improve hearing, prevent infections, or relieve symptoms like tinnitus or vertigo.
